We asked our customers 6 crisp questions to gain insight into their experience with promotional gifts. The result: exciting insights on relevance, impact and sustainability that we would like to share with you. In addition, you will find out at the very end what kind of Net Promoter Score (NPS) Twing has achieved.

Important to know: In the survey, all types of corporate gifts are meant, regardless of the name. These include promotional gifts, employee gifts, customer gifts and other giveaways. The following 6 qualitative questions (abbreviated here) were asked:

Relevance of promotional items

Question 1: In general, how important do you think it is to use employee or promotional gifts in communications/marketing?

(1 = not at all important | 5 = extremely important)

Conclusion: Almost 90% of respondents find giveaways a very valuable tool in communication and marketing. This is not surprising. Promotional gifts are an important means of communication. This is also confirmed by the current study on the topic by the industry association PromoSwiss. While only one in three companies with up to 9 employees uses promotional products in microenterprises, nearly 9 out of 10 companies in medium-sized and large enterprises do so (PromoSwiss, study Use of promotional products in the Swiss economy 2017 , S. 6).

Question 2: How do you rate the general impact of promotional gifts or employee gifts?

Conclusion: Promotional gifts have a clear impact in the perception of the respondents. It is not for nothing that promotional products are the most important advertising medium for companies in Switzerland next to online advertising (PromoSwiss, study Use of promotional products in the Swiss economy 2017 , S. 25).

How important is sustainability?

Question 3: How important is sustainability to you when it comes to promotional or employee gifts?

Conclusion: Around 80% of the people surveyed attach great importance to sustainable advertising products. The result confirms the current megatrend Sustainability . The sustainability paradigm is obviously also reprogramming the promotional products industry and influencing the purchasing decisions of recipients and senders of promotional products (Zukunftsinstitut, Megatrend Neo-Ecology, 2023).

Criteria for selection

Question 4: What three characteristics are most important to you when selecting promotional or employee gifts?

Conclusion: Benefit and Quality are cited by 66% of respondents as two of the three most important attributes for promotional gifts. With 60 % follows Sustainability as an extremely important characteristic in the selection. Cost and Wow effect (e.g., through a great product idea, packaging, or design) were cited by 49% of respondents. Delivery time is still named by 10% of respondents as one of the most important 3 characteristics.

Change of perception

Question 5: How has your general perception of the quality of promotional gifts changed in recent years?

(1= strongly deteriorated | 5 = strongly improved)

Conclusion: The perception of promotional gifts in terms of quality has remained unchanged in recent years for around 55% of the people surveyed. However, the perception of quality has improved for around 38%. Twing is also observing this trend. The image of cheap mass-produced goods is no longer so firmly anchored in people’s minds. Twing’s mission is to help keep this trend going.

Conclusion: Around 56% of the respondents are Twing Promoters (value of 9 or 10), which is considered an excellent NPS and of course makes us very happy!

Survey information

This survey was conducted by Twing in September 2023. Around 200 people took part in the survey. The majority of the respondents work in marketing, HR or management and are responsible for the procurement of promotional gifts. The companies are active in Switzerland, Germany and Austria and range from small businesses to large corporations.
